Aaron had already told them, "O my people! You are only being tested by this. Your Lord is the All Merciful, so follow me and obey my command." 90 'We will not cease,' they said, 'to cleave to it, until Moses returns to us.') 91 (Moses) said: "O Aaron! what kept thee back, when thou sawest them going wrong, 92 “That you did not come after me? So did you disobey my order?” 93 "O son of my mother," (Aaron cried), do not pull me by my beard or my hair! I was really afraid you may say that I had created a rift among the children of Israel, and did not pay heed to your command." 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me." 96 Moses said, "Begone! It shall be your lot to say throughout your life, "Do not touch me," and you will be faced with a fate from which there will be no escape. Now look at your deity to which you have become so devoted: we shall burn it up, and then scatter it into the sea. 97 Your Lord is the One who is the only God and He has the knowledge of all things. 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 Whoever turns away from it, will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection. 100 And will live for ever under it. How evil the burden they will carry on the Day of Doom! 101 The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. 102 Whispering secretly among themselves, “You have not stayed on earth but for ten days.” 103 We know well what they will say to one another: We also know that even the most cautious in his estimate will say: "You lived in the world no more than a day." 104
