No, by the moon! 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mortals, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 concerning the sinners, 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
