He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
