The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
