The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
Almighty God's Truth.
