The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
