And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
