'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And orchards and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
