The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
