The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By [the winds] that pluck out vehemently 1 And who softly release the soul. (Of the believer) 2 and float [through space] with floating serene, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 Hearts on that Day will be throbbing; 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, 10 “When we have become decayed bones?” 11 They will say: 'Then we are returned lost' 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 So they will immediately be in an open plain. 14 Has Moses' story reached you? 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 saying 'Go to Pharaoh, he has become exceedingly insolent, 17 And say to him, "Would you like to reform yourself? 18 that I may direct you to your Lord and then you hold Him in awe?'” 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 But (the Pharaoh) disavowed and disobeyed. 21 then he turned away hastily, 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 Wherefore Allah laid hold of him with the punishment of the Hereafter and of the present. 25 Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears. 26
