(Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician, 34 "He wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery, then what is it your counsel, and what do you command?" 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 "To bring up to you every well-versed sorcerer." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a stated time and place on an appointed day. 38 And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering? 39 That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?" 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 [And] Moses said unto them: "Throw whatever you are going to throw!" 43 So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, "By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant." 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and it swallowed up all that they had conjured into being. 45 Then the magicians fell prostrating in adoration, 46 [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all. 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers. 51
