The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
