When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful. 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 and We took vengeance on them. The two of them were upon a roadway manifest. 79
