Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the winds that scatter the dust far and wide, 1 then the bearers of weight (the clouds), 2 and those that speed along with gentle ease, 3 and those that apportion [the gift of life] at [God's] behest! 4 Verily that which ye are promised is true; 5 and the Judgement shall doubtlessly take place. 6 By the Sky with (its) numerous Paths, 7 surely, you are in different sayings, 8 From which only he turns who is turned away. 9 Perish the conjecturers 10 Who are lost in deception. 11 They ask; "When will be the Day of Recompense?" 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (and tested) over the Fire! 13 and will be told, "Suffer the torment which you wanted to experience immediately". 14 The pious ones will live amidst gardens and springs, 15 Receiving what is given them by their Lord. They were surely the virtuous before this. 16 They used to sleep but little of the night, 17 and in the mornings they would ask for forgiveness; 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 And on the earth are signs for those who have Faith with certainty, 20 As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see? 21 And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised. 22 for, by the Sustainer of heaven and earth, this [life after death] is the very truth - as true as that you are endowed with speech! 23
