He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
