He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
