(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
