The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
