The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
