NAY, but consider the moon! 32 By the receding night 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
