He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
