(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
