The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and pus 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
