He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
