The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
