The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
