Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 A revelation from the Beneficent, the Merciful, 2 A Book of which the verses are made plain, an Arabic Quran for a people who know: 3 A herald of good news and a warner, but most of them turn aside so they hear not. 4 And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting. 5 Say thou: I am only a human being like unto you; only it is revealed unto me that your God is but One God, wherefore take the straight path unto Him and seek forgiveness of Him. And woe be unto the associators. 6 [and] those who do not spend in charity: for it is they, they who [thus] deny the truth of the life to come! 7 For those who believe and work deeds of righteousness is a reward that will never fail. 8
