He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
