۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
