۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
