Have you seen the one who turned away 33 And he gave a little, then refrained? 34 Or, does he possess knowledge of the Unseen, and can therefore see? 35 Has he not been informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses, 36 And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey), 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 And that man will not obtain anything except what he strove for? 39 And that his endeavour shall be presently observed. 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 and that the final end is with your Lord, 42 And that it is He Who causeth to laugh and causeth to weep. 43 And that it is He who causes death and gives life 44 And that He creates the two mates - the male and female - 45 from a discharged living germ 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), 48 and that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius, 49 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. 55 This is a warning just like those of former times. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare. 58 Do ye then wonder at this recital? 59 And you laugh and do not weep 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
