The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
