(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
