The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
