The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the finest, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
