Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
