The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
