And indeed, even before [the return of Moses] had Aaron said unto them: "O my people! You are but being tempted to evil by this [idol] - for, behold, your [only] Sustainer is the Most Gracious! Follow me, then, and obey my bidding!" 90 They replied: 'We will not stop; we will cling to it until Moses returns to us.' 91 But (Moses) said: "O Aaron, when you saw that they had gone astray, what hindered you 92 That thou followedst me not! Hast thou disobeyed my command? 93 'Son of my mother,' Aaron said, 'take me not by the beard, or the head! I was fearful that thou wouldst say, "Thou hast divided the Children of Israel, and thou hast not observed my word." 94 Moses asked, "Samiri, what were your motives?" 95 (Samiri) said: "I saw what they saw not, so I took a handful (of dust) from the hoof print of the messenger [Jibrael's (Gabriel) horse] and threw it [into the fire in which were put the ornaments of the Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, or into the calf]. Thus my inner-self suggested to me." 96 Moses said: "Be gone, then. All your life you shall cry: 'Untouchable.' There awaits a term for your reckoning that you cannot fail to keep. Now look at your god that you devotedly adored: We shall burn it and scatter its remains in the sea. 97 Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge." 98 So We relate to thee stories of what has gone before, and We have given thee a remembrance from Us. 99 If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment; 100 They will remain in it forever – what an evil burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection! 101 The day when the Trumpet is blown. On that day we assemble the guilty white-eyed (with terror), 102 They shall whisper among themselves: "You stayed on the earth barely ten days." 103 We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!" 104
