Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 [Thereupon the angels called out unto him: "O Zachariah! We bring thee the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son whose name shall be John. [And God says,] "Never have We given this name to anyone before him." 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
