In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
