The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
