Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And cups set at hand. 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
