And [mention, O Muhammad], when Moses said to his people, "O my people, remember the favor of Allah upon you when He appointed among you prophets and made you possessors and gave you that which He had not given anyone among the worlds. 20 O my people! Enter the holy land which God has assigned for you. Do not turn back, or you will be the losers." 21 They said, "Moses, in that land there is a powerful people. Never shall we enter it until they leave it: if they leave, then we shall certainly enter it." 22 Two men of those who feared, upon both of whom Allah had bestowed a favor, said: Enter upon them by the gate, for when you have entered it you shall surely be victorious, and on Allah should you rely if you are believers. 23 They said: 'Moses, we will never go in so long as they are in it. Go, you and your Lord, to fight. We will stay here' 24 He said, 'O my Lord, I rule no one except myself and my brother. So do Thou divide between us and the people of the ungodly.' 25 [Allah] said, "Then indeed, it is forbidden to them for forty years [in which] they will wander throughout the land. So do not grieve over the defiantly disobedient people." 26
