Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor 5 one that might be my heir and the heir of the house of Jacob; and make him, Lord, one that will be pleasing to You. 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
