Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 "Or do they benefit you or harm you?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 "And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised." 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 "Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound heart." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
