NAY, but consider the moon! 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 As they were frightened asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
