He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
