And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
