The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
