He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
